Native Plant Hike in Forest Park

This is a guided
hike around a 1.5 to 2 mile loop in Forest Park.
This is the time of year when many of our natives
are growing well and in bloom. We'll walk through
Forest Park and identify native plants and explore
the "plant communities" in which they
live. We'll also discuss growing natives in your
own yard. Carpool from store, leaving promptly at
10am, or meet at trailhead at 10:20. Back at Livingscape
by noon.
There is no cost, but we ask folks to register since

a hive inspection? How do you do it? What should
you look for? What might you see (or smell or hear)
and what should you do about it? This is a great
follow up to the beginner class and well suited
for new or newer beekeepers. Hands-on with live
hives.
We'll also cover when to do subsequent inspections
and how to prepare for fall (to keep your
bees alive through winter, etc.). Taught by
Tom Lea.

Than Just Jam!

This class will cover
different kinds of fruit preparation (jam, jelly,
preserves, chutneys, compotes, etc) and will prepare
lemon curd and strawberry preserves. The class will
be hands-on for preparation and canning of both
recipes. Participants will take home a jar of each
recipe at the end of the class. Taught by Holly
Espenlaub.

Pickling:
Cukes, Veggies & Beyond!

Preserve the bounty
of summer! Make great gifts! Pickling is a tasty
and creative way of preserving your vegetables and
... it does not require a pressure canner!
You will learn step-by-step instructions on how
to pickle, including equipment, preparation, and
procedures for a wide range of vegetables and relish.
You will also learn some "secrets" to
embellish the taste. Pickling candidate TBD, but
will likely include peppers, asparagus and carrots.
Hands-on, with take home. Taught by Holly Espenlaub.
